Got a sweet tooth?

MEet Your friend,

the Dusty Baker!

For several years, while building my food-writing portfolio, I blogged as The Dusty Baker. Focusing on gluten-free and dairy-alternative recipes, I baked through the bulk of Christina Tosi’s Milk Bar cookbook with an amazing group of ladies, penned a “Pro Pastry” column of recipes adjusted from badass chef friends, and adapted dozens of holiday sweets from old family recipes so that they would be safe for my Celiac and post-Lyme body.

It was loads of fun. I worked with recipes almost every day. I developed a small web series for E:How Foods. I won a few small pastry contests. I assisted food stylists and then did food styling myself for magazine and digital photo shoots. I eventually assisted a few chefs, and did some private cheffing.

But writing about others became far more interesting than blogging myself. So now, 300+ posts sit ready, with recipes and largely unedited words and no agenda other than sharing delicious things.

Dairy-Free Coconut Creme Brulee

Dairy-free creme brulee

One of my most popular posts to this day from 2011, I updated it a bit with help from chef Joe Murphy in my Pro Pastry column with a variation in 2014, too. Either way, you can't go wrong!

Video - making gluten-free pie crust

With your hands, a standing mixer, or a food processor, here's a recipe and video for how to make a basic gluten-free pie crust.

Three-Ginger Snaps!

With dried, freshly grated, and candied ginger slowly baked into a crunchy gluten-free cookie, these truly put the snap! in gingersnap!

Mini bLack & White cookies and my 300th post!

300 posts calls for a special cookie, and the black and white is certainly a special one. These New York essentials are the perfect blend of cake and cookie. Yay.

{gluten-free, vegan} Dark Chocolate Lace Cookies

These buttery, super-thin, crispy cookies get filled with a drizzle of dark chocolate and bring me back to childhood Christmases made even better with safe ingredients and grown-up skill.

The very best brownies I have ever made are these spicy chocolate chipotle brownies

Chef Johnny Iuzzini included one of my gluten-free recipes in his Sugar Rush cookbook. And when it launched, I freed this brownie recipe of its gluten. It is, by far, the best brownie I've ever made.
