Thank you to everyone who joined us!

From the organizers:

Today, Americans own twice the amount of stuff they did 50 years ago and bill more out-of-office hours than any other advanced economy. We online date, binge-watch, thumb through social media, and often wander around exhausted and unsure. Raposo, a prolific journalist and radio host, took note of this cultural struggle and intimately embraced a life stripped down in The Me, Without: A Year Exploring Habit, Healing, and Happiness. Throughout the course of a year, she progressively shed her most constant habits, alternately removing social media, sugar and alcohol consumption, waste, unnecessary spending, and more in the effort to measure this abstinence against her physical health, social interactions, and sense of self-worth. The results are moving and surprising.

In this panel, Jacqueline will be joined by celebrated chef Missy Robbins, author and mental health advocate Kat Kinsman, and writer and The Lonely Hour podcast host Julia Bainbridge to delve into the overarching theme of what has become a constant buzz word in recent years: self-care. They will discuss self-care when things are going well and when they’re not, the definition of self-beyond the wellness category, how we determine needs and what to do about them, why we don't act upon fulfilling them, and more.

The event will open with spirit-free cocktails by Listen Bar and book-themed treats by chef Daniel Skurnick of Le Coucou. A Q&A and book sales/signings from Jacqueline, Missy, and Kat will follow the discussion.

Sensory-friendly light and sound levels, reserved seating for those with chronic illness, and ASL interpretation welcome those in the chronic illness and disability communities. Join us in the Rare Book Room for this delightful and tasty talk!
